Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has
announced that its Regional Science Resource Center and the Berkshire STEM
Pipeline Network invites local educators to participate in an upcoming
STARLAB training workshop, on March 2, 4:30-6:30 p.m., in the MCLA Church
Street Center.

This two-hour training session will focus on the use of STARLAB, a
portable planetarium. According to Chris Himes, STEM program manager, the
STARLAB is a fun and novel way to discuss the night sky, constellations
and other astronomical topics.

“It is our hope that after participating in the workshop, teachers from
across Berkshire County will be comfortable using the equipment and be
able to bring STARLAB to their school,” Himes said.

Himes will co-lead this workshop with MCLA education professor Dr. Nick
Stroud.

At the end of this workshop teachers will be able to follow all proper
procedures, as well as independently setup, operate and break down
STARLAB, and demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for storing,
setting up, and operating STARLAB. Workshop participants also will learn
how to operate the star projector and gain access to established lesson
plans and activities.
