MCLA TO OFFER PRODUCTION ABOUT THE LEGENDARY LIFE OF HARRIET TUBMAN

February 22, 2012
8:00 pmto10:00 pm

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) will
present an acclaimed theatrical production about the life of Harriet
Tubman on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. in the MCLA Church Street Center’s
Eleanor Furst Roberts Auditorium.
The one woman play, “Harriet’s Return: Based Upon the Legendary Life of
Harriet Tubman” by Karen Jones Meadows, is free and open to the public.
“Harriet’s Return” is an official event of the National Underground
Railroad Network to Freedom Program.

“Harriet’s Return…reaches inside its heroine’s thoughts all the way to
her soul…The playwright supplies Harriet with ‘voices’ who embody, among
other flesh-and-blood characters, the voices inside Harriet’s head that
guide her to her choices…The play imitates its heroine’s pragmatism in a
particularly moving way,” wrote Laurie Winer of the Los Angeles Times.
Meadows is an author, actress, and producer who writes, performs and leads
workshops for adult and young audiences with an emphasis on creating
dynamic, life-changing experiences. She has been lead or principal actress
in 28 commercials, and numerous stage, film and television productions.

This event is co-sponsored by MCLA’s President’s Office, Office of
Academic Affairs, Office of Student Affairs, Center for Multicultural
Education, Black Student Union, and the Susan B. Anthony Women’s Center.
